Grado uses three different wood species for the first time in one headphone.The housingsleeve is made from maple, with a hemp core, and a cocobolo outer ring.For decades, Grado has used wood for its warm and embracing tonal abilities, but finding the right balance of three separate kinds of wood is no simple task. Here, the combination is an ideal complement to the 50 mm X driver, with themaple doing most of the resonance or damping, the hemp smoothing out the top and low ends, and thecocobolo adding that extra punch. Together the sound is full-bodied, dynamic, and truly defined.

Large 50 mm X Driver

The RS1x is the first headphone to be built with the larger 50mm X drivers, which have been specially tuned for the tri-wood RS1x. The new design features a more powerful magnetic circuit, a voice coil with decreased effective mass, and a reconfigured diaphragm. Reengineering these components forthe50mm drivers improves efficiency, reduces distortion, and preserves the harmonic integrity of your music.
